First Viennese Computer Vision Meetup Roundup

Project Description

First Viennese Computer Vision Meetup Roundup

Last Tuesday the first Viennese Computer Vision Meetup took place at our office “Die Manege”. Due to the fact that there is a great potential concerning that specific field in Vienna, the idea is to host this meetup once a month and establish a network, focused on Computer Vision topics, idea exchange and joint brainstorming.

TALK ABOUT “TEXT DETECTION STRATEGIES“

After everybody grabbed his/her welcome drink, our CTO Daniel Albertini held an overview talk about different text detection strategies.

Daniel compared the SWT (Stroke Width Transformation) and the MSER (Maximally Stable Extremal Regions), explained the different procedures with an example and showed the advantages and disadvantages of each approach.

As it was the first meetup we were curious if we were able to meet the expectations of the audience. The positive feedback and personal suggestions of some participants were very helpful and we are putting together the next meetup before Christmas right now, because of all the ideas and input from that evening.

At the open discussion a lot of ideas about what the Vienna meetups should include or offer were created. If you have any more inputs or ideas you can join the community or simply drop us a line!

So, I think it’s safe to say that the First Edition of the Vienna Computer Vision Meetup was a success!

A big thank you to everybody who joined our kick-off and we are hoping to see you and your friends in December for the second edition of the Vienna Computer Vision Meetup.
